Operating Theatre Control Panels function as integrated with many different systems parallel with their functional characteristics. System integrations may realize in different infrastructures and protocols. This varies depending on infrastructure and technologies of various automation systems at hospitals with hardware and software characteristics of Operating Theatre control panels.

I. INTRODUCTION

Operating Theatre Control Panels maintain integration with many structures from air conditioning automation to central gas alarm system, from illumination automation to central music system, and provides characteristics of control and command functions to users.

Various controls and visual measurement values of automation systems used in Operating Theatres for maintaining the hygiene are managed through Operating Theatre Control Panels.

Most important ones among them are location temperature info, humidity info, room differential pressure and hepa filter contamination info. Heat, humidity and room differential pressure values may vary depending on type of operation and status of the patient. However, location temperature control shall be requested and that is enabled by sending heat set info to automation through the Operating Theatre Control Panel and bringing the location to requested heat.

Apart from these, Automation generally requests Operation Available / Not Available info to be given from the Operation Control Panel, and this information is important for determining the operation level of ventilation system.

This information exchange between the Operation Control Panel and the Automation may be performed with different protocols. In general, 0-10 V analogue information exchange is preferred. However, communication types such as TCP/IP, Modbus, BACnet may be used under different infrastructures.

Medical Gas Systems are systems enabling distribution of medical gases used in Hospitals to required units.

Purpose of medical gas systems is to meet requirements of health organizations in a safe and aesthetic way in accordance with hygiene rules from a single centre without requiring availability of pressurized tubes and mobile surgery aspirators having complex and unreliable structure within the building.

These Gases are Oxygen (O2), Nitrogen Protoxide (N2O), Vakuostat (Vac), Pressurized Gases (A4, A7). Medical personnel requests visual and audio alarms regarding pressure levels of these gases also on Operating Theatre Control panel screens.

High / low level alarms of gases are transmitted from the central gas alarm system to Operating Theatre Control Panel. Thus, operation team sees alarms regarding the gas system.

These alarm information may be sent to Operating Theatre Control panel via different techniques. In general, signals are transferred from the gas alarm system to Operating Theatre Control panels by giving the contact information. Thanks to improved communication infrastructures and different Central Gas Systems, these alarms may be transferred to the Operating Theatre Control panel through the Modbus.

Connection of Operating Theatre Control Panel with the Illumination Automation

Almost all illuminations are controlled through the Operating Theatre Control panel in Operating Theatres. Operation Lamp, General Armatures, UV lamps and Negatoscope may be assessed among these illumination groups. Although Operation lamp and Negatoscope have controls on them, power supply controls are generally provided on Operating Theatre Control panels.

Operating Theatre Control panels may transfer information to Illumination Automation for adjusting light intensity of these illumination groups thanks to their Dimmer functions. Like in the past, despite the dimmer control is being performed via 0-10 V analogue information exchange, 0-10 V analogue information exchange seems like completely replaced with DALI and KNX protocol communication infrastructures in coming days thanks to improved communication infrastructures.

Many products and equipment integrated to Operating Theatre Control panels have connection types depending on their characteristics. Commonly known ones among them are Music broadcast systems and phone integration.

Despite the phone integration varies depending on the hospital infrastructure, classic analogue switchboards are one of the most preferred methods in hospitals. Today, wide use of IP phones in all areas has created the need for Operating Theatre Control panels to have phone infrastructures having this feature.

Music broadcast systems being used in hospitals cover transmission of music, radio and emergency announcements defined by the hospital management to requested locations. Audio system can be transferred to many locations from hospital public areas to patient rooms, monitoring rooms and intensive care units. In Operating Theatres, this situation differs when compared with others. Besides the general vocalization given above, music genres found suitable by the medical personnel or patients can be listened in Operating Theatres. Operating Theatre Control panels are equipped with various technical features to meet these demands. 4 channels music broadcast selection, integrated speaker, volume adjustment features are musts of control panels.

Today, music broadcast system in Operating Theatre Control panels have improved with increased demands, USB and Bluetooth connections and MP3 playing features are integrated in panels.

Conclusion

Operating Theatre Control Panels have improved parallel with systems they are connected to and reached today with many different features and models. Besides these features, rapidly increasing technological improvements, visual concepts and easy-to-use characteristics make Operating Theatre Control Panels inevitable for hospitals.
